Keeping the bean bag

A practical storage habit begins with the amount you will actually use.

Choose a manageable amount

Think about how quickly you finish a bag at your usual brewing rate. A size that fits your routine can be more useful than a large supply bought on impulse. Keep the label or note the coffee name and opening date so that a tasting observation can be connected to the right beans.

Protect the daily supply

Close the bag or container after use and store it away from heat, moisture and direct sun. A resealable coffee bag can be sufficient for an everyday supply. Check that the closure is actually shut. The best container is one you use consistently rather than one that complicates a simple morning routine.

Notice the change over time

Taste the coffee throughout the bag and make an occasional brief note. If the recipe changes, record that too. There is no need to decide that every coffee must taste best on the same day after roasting. Learn what you prefer from your own bag, method and ordinary storage conditions.
